This chapter, for some reason, made me think of the restaurant scene from Le Femme Nikita. Here’s this rough little street urchin, completely glamored by the ritziness of the place, and she finds out she’s here for a job. I think that Riddick would be perfectly content to keep her on lock in their apartment, but he realizes her need to be included, and so lets her participate. It speaks volumes about his character, even though we aren’t glancing directly into his mind. He knows her so well, and knows what she needs. YOu do a seamless job of showing flashbacks that integrate into the modern day events of the story. It’s very well orchestrated, and it makes visualizing the situation that much easier.

I laughed at this chapter and Jack’s innocent, but VERY adult insinuations. You can tell that he’s uncomfortable but amused by her brash words. And then it’s funny because they have this close relationship so the awkwardness never really pulls through and affects them. And Jack really wants Riddick, but she can’t let herself be that vunerable again. Love that she’s thinking so much about love and not associating it with Riddick, because in her mind it’s something dirty, and she doesn’t want their relationship to be tainted by it.

This was heartbreaking, but oh so very insightful into the damaged and broken mind of Jack. You can see her runaway qualities and survival instinct has hardened her, but her compassionate nature always makes things a battle with her. Riddick, funnily enough, is someone who doesn’t seem to want human compassion (deep down he does) so he immediately appeals to her. Love that Riddick is this stoic, but supportive figure for her and that she’s the one repudiating the ideals of love.

I read this story in one sit down about a week ago. It’s amazing, and the only reason I didn’t stop to review was because it would have interrupted your amazing story. You should publish this on bigger sites like FF.net to get more exposure. I really had to dig to find this, and it honestly is one of the best PB I’ve ever read. I came back to specifically break down and review each chapter, as there are so many things that really reached out to me. Thanks for being an amazing writer and I hope that you can find some time out of your busy schedule to finish these stories.
**As a writer, I find it hard to write in character and give a comprehensive look at the situation. I see that you have no such qualms, and I can easily picture the gritty surrounding and sense the tension in J and R’s relationship. Great opening chapter, we get a lil bit of fluff, action, bullets, and insight into Jack’s mind.
